Lauren Emerson

Lauren Emerson helps clients establish, protect, maintain, and enforce intellectual property rights. Her practice focuses primarily on issues related to copyright, trademark, trade dress and unfair competition. Lauren has experience working with clients, ranging from start-ups and small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. She has had the pleasure of working with clients in a diverse array of industries, including apparel, software, electronics, telecom, energy, toys, food and beverage, finance, and credit card services.
Lauren develops and executes strategies for protecting brands around the world. Her practice includes all aspects of trademark searching and clearance, as well as the prosecution of trademark and copyright applications through to registration. Lauren has experience protecting both traditional and non-traditional marks, including sound marks, scent marks and retail store trade dress. She counsels clients regarding foreign trademark matters, including cross-border opposition and cancellation proceedings. In particular, she has significant experience enforcing intellectual property rights in China. Lauren also advises clients regarding licensing and other commercial agreements.
When conflicts arise, Lauren represents clients in contested matters and federal litigation. She has helped plaintiffs and defendants navigate disputes involving trademark, trade dress and copyright infringement. Lauren has significant experience representing clients in contested proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and regularly handles domain name disputes and UDRP proceedings.
Lauren is active in intellectual property organizations. She currently serves as a member of The Copyright Committee for The International Trademark Association, and as Chair of Professional Programming and Education for Copyright Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Lauren is also an active member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, where she served as co-chair of the Copyright Law and Practice Committee from 2014 to 2017.
Prior to joining Leason Ellis, Lauren practiced for ten years at Baker Botts LLP. She enjoyed a prior career in licensing at Pokémon USA, Inc.
